Meet the tree that will spruce up Rockefeller Center this Christmas

A Norway spruce from West Edmeston, New York, will soon arrive at Rockefeller Center for the 2026 holiday season. Standing 76 feet tall and estimated to be 75 years old, the tree will travel roughly 200 miles to its temporary home in Manhattan.

Crews are scheduled to cut down the spruce on November 5, with its arrival at Rockefeller Plaza planned for November 7. The following weeks will be devoted to preparing it for the December 2 lighting ceremony, which will be broadcast nationally during “Christmas in Rockefeller Center.”

According to Rockefeller Center, more than 50,000 multicolored LED lights will decorate the branches, while a Swarovski star will crown the tree.

Visitors will have until January 9, 2027, to see the holiday display. Afterward, the spruce will serve another purpose: it will be processed into lumber for Habitat for Humanity, supporting the organization’s housing work.
